Ever wonder what those addresses mean? You may be looking at property on the MLS and wonder where that property is located. Confusing!
Here’s a little secret.
There are addresses and TMK numbers (which “mainlanders” normally call tax assessors parcel numbers or APN).
The Big Island is always a 3…so if you are looking at TAX KEYS, the first number will always be a “3”.
How does that apply to address’s?
The addresses themselves do not start with a 3, but the NEXT NUMBER will tell you almost exactly where that property is located on the Big Island.
Any address that starts with a 7 for example is in NORTH KONA.
That would cover Puu Lani Ranch, Hualalai Resort all the way through Kona, to Keauhou, Hanalo and North Kalakekua.
An 8 is SOUTH KONA
That would reach Kalakekua, to Captain Cook, Honaunau, Kona Paradise, Papa Bay, Milolii to Ocean View.
A 9 is KAU
Covering Ocean View, Discovery Harbor, South Point, Naalehu, Ninole, Punaluu to Volcano.
A 1 is PUNA DISTRICT (South of Hilo).
Volcano through Mountain View, Glenwood, Kurtistown, Keeau, Pahoa, to South Hilo town.
A 2 is SOUTH HILO
Hilo town north to Pepeekeo to Honomu and Hakalau.
A 3 is NORTH HILO
Hakalau, Ninole, Laupahoehoe to Ookala.
A 4 is HAMAKUA
Ookala through Paaulo, Honokaa, Kapuena, to Waipio Valley.
A 5 is NORTH KOHALA
Hawi to Kohala Ranch.
A 6 is SOUTH KOHALA
Kohala Ranch through Kawaihae, Puako, Wiamea, Waikoloa Village, Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea Resort to the Waikoloa Beach Resort area.
Back to where we started
7. NORTH KONA
Waikoloa Resort South through Hualalai Resort, Puu Lani Ranch, all the way to 7-9, which is just south of Keauhou towards Kalakekua.
